A Quick Snapshot of Two Good Men in Our Government

I just returned from a luncheon meeting where our NC State Auditor, Dave Boliek, was the featured speaker. But first up, was our Congressman, Chuck Edwards, who gave a 15-minute update of what’s happening in Congress and in our 11th Congressional District.

He lauded President Trump’s State of the Union (SOTU) speech and the audience responded with resounding applause and cheers.

Chuck also discussed how he has been bringing Federal assistance to some communities still recovering from the hellish Hurricane Helene. Chuck was particularly annoyed at the local ABC affiliate in Asheville, WLOS-TV. He had notified them that he would be in a tiny community very hard hit by Helene.  Chuck went there to present to them with the check.

Instead, WLOS came to the Hendersonville courthouse to cover a handful of Leftists protesting Trump and Chuck’s support for him. Chuck sent them a letter castigating them for their Leftist bias.

After sharing how the same thing happened again, Chuck announced (tongue-in-cheek) that he was going to “rename” WLOS and wanted to take a vote in our meeting.

He combined the push for the SAVE Act with the vote at our luncheon: proof of citizenship, photo ID, etc. 😊Chuck presented four options and the one that won overwhelmingly was Wildly Liberal Obnoxious Station.

We are proud to report that three weeks ago Congressman Edwards introduced the No Funds for Ballot Harvesting Act, legislation aimed at strengthening election integrity and protecting free and honest elections.

The main speaker was NC State Auditor, Dave Boliek. He began by joking that many people do not recognize even the office of the State Auditor let alone who occupies that office.

It was a sad state of affairs when he took office January 3, 2025 and found only six people in the office in Raleigh. He discovered immediately that the office was on a schedule such that these government employees only need show up two days a week. The office employs 160 people!

Dave said he changed that situation immediately and expected all of them to be in the office (with a few exceptions, of course, for those whose job requires travel, etc.) Oh, he added, and we got rid of DEI immediately also. (Much applause.)

Unlike most other states where the Secretary of State has much control over the state election processes, in North Carolina it is the State Auditor who appoints the state election commission. The Dems have controlled it for many years—but no longer.

Another major and early focus was an audit of the NC Education Lottery which takes in billions of dollars annually. Without detailing the numbers here, Dave found highly suspicious shortfalls in actual funding for education.

He has also been posting many of the audits presently running and the results on the office’s website. He especially noted how that most communities are regularly passing bond initiatives to finance whatever, but that until he came into office, no one could say how the bond funds were spent. That is changed.

Finally, regarding our state’s election processes, Dave related how he had rattled the Dems as soon as he announced the state’s election system would be revamped and made transparent. In particular, the Dems were irked when he (and I took it that he created a new office) appointed a person to be in charge of election enforcement. No more shady business.

He said the Dems really “raised Cain” when he commenced a project to “repair the voter rolls.” He also told us how to contact his office to report any suspicion of fraud or irregularities involving state money—a tip line and whistleblower access.

The audience of about 80 percent women and 20 percent men regularly and enthusiastically applauded. We are blessed to have Mr. Boliek in that critical state office.

While I was there, I was able to pick up sample ballots for our state primary which occurs March 3rd. I know who my favorites are and I will be casting my ballot in the next day or two.

Obviously, I share about my local civic activities as a means of encouraging all our readers to “go thou and do likewise.” We have a once-God blessed nation to reclaim for righteousness as we await the return of our King, Jesus Christ!

“Occupy until I come,” saith the King.
