Breakfast with my Congressman

This past Saturday morning I attended the monthly breakfast meeting of the Henderson County Republican Men’s Club (HCRMC). The featured speaker was our U. S. Congressman Chuck Edwards. For the first time ever at this meeting there were several local police officers in the entryway and milling about. I learned that local (?) Leftists had posted on Facebook that they would be there to “protest”…yeah, right!

NC District 11 U. S. Congressman Chuck Edwards

Our treasurer joked that if any came by his perch at the door, they would have to shell out $13 for breakfast. I grinned as I replied that we would immediately be able to identify them because they would be the only persons with green and purple hair with three nose rings and 20 rings on each ear. Thankfully, none showed up. I am guessing that nine o’clock in the morning is way too early for “social justice warriors.”

I had the opportunity to speak to Chuck briefly before the meeting began, just to give him a heads up on a question I would save for the Q & A session. I told him it was about “our” Senator Thom Tillis (whom many of us have known for years is a RINO {Republican In Name Only}). Chuck immediately replied that Sen. Tillis would have to speak for himself. I clarified that it was not about him, but about his successor.

Chuck’s wife, Theresa, was also there and in greeting her, she immediately recognized me as the guy who wanted to “borrow” a McDonalds apron for a costume party last fall. (Chuck and Theresa own five local Micky D franchises.)

You recall that Theresa’s gift to me was during the 2024 Presidential campaign when Trump had volunteered to serve as a French fryer worker at a McDonalds and the scene went viral on the web.

So I had donned a blond Trump wig, wore a white shirt and red tie, and Theresa gave me a brand-new McDonalds blue and gold apron, complete with the “Master French Frier” pin which was pinned front and center on the apron. It sparked rollicking laughter from many at the party but it also ignited evidence of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) from others.

I told Theresa on Saturday that I was still using the apron from time to time around my house. She then kindly invited me to the Grand Re-opening this coming Friday of their McDonalds store on Spartanburg Highway in Hendersonville. The store had been totally destroyed by the HHH (Hellish Hurricane Helene).

Chuck addressed the crowd of perhaps 75 attendees about the frustrations of working with (or around) FEMA to get the aid needed in WNC to help rebuild after the HHH. In the Q & A session, one lady shared how they had lost 150 trees on their property due to the storm. She reported how they had put in a request for help from FEMA, but heard nothing for a while.

She was effusive in her praise for the churches and Christian organizations which came and helped clear the downed trees and remove the resulting debris piles. Then, she continued, one day she noticed someone was on the property and putting markers around trees still standing.

She found out they were from FEMA. She asked why they would designate healthy trees to be cut down. The feeble answer was something to the effect that “it’s a government thing, and that’s what we gotta do.” !!

The next day, a FEMA crew showed up without a bucket truck and took down two healthy trees before she could get home and stop them. There were three other healthy trees that had since then been designated for removal also.

This despite the fact that she pointed out two dying trees that really should be removed, but no…. They wouldn’t do that, and told her they were going to continue unless she filled out such and such FEMA forms and submitted it, and… you can imagine the rest of this horror story.

That, boys and girls, is a prime example—not of government incompetence as some would like to think—but of government deep staters who set the policies and who are deliberately doing everything they can to sow chaos, and to destroy our nation, down to the mom-and-pop level like this, in any and every way they can. It’s criminal!

Maybe things will change soon as the Trump-appointed acting head of FEMA, Cameron Hamilton, was fired on Thursday after publicly disagreeing with his boss, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Hamilton had testified in Congress the day before and stated that he did not believe that FEMA should be abolished. Despite the Trump team’s best efforts to weed out those deep staters who are still burrowed deep in the bureaucracies, there will still be those who have hidden their anti-Trump, anti-MAGA and essentially anti-Constitution mindsets, but Trump has tasked each cabinet secretary and all department heads to “drain the swamp.”

And we see evidence of it almost daily. Which leads to the question I posed to Congressman Edwards after his address.

It concerns how Sen. Thom Tillis (NC-RINO) was a key opponent this past week of getting Ed Martin out of key Senate committee for a vote in the full Senate.

Ed Martin was Trump’s first choice for the position of chief federal prosecutor in Washington, D. C. where Martin has served on temporary appointment since Trump came into office again.

Legal experts have noted that if Martin were not approved and Trump did not nominate someone else in a very short window of time, that the radical Leftist Judge Boasberg would have the privilege of appointing someone to fill the vacancy—yikes!

The position is critically important because the D. C. chief prosecuting attorney is  responsible for bringing charges against all manner of federal officials—very key in draining the swamp.

So POTUS left the vacancy exist for less than 24 hours as he then nominated Judge Jeanine Pirro to fill the post. How do you like “them” apples, Lefties? Getting your compromised RINO Tillis to block Ed Martin may have resulted in going from bad to worse from your perspective.

Pirro will now be yet another alumna/alumnus of Fox News hosts and personalities who serve in the Trump Administration. Others include Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Deputy Director of the FBI, Dan Bongino, and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

My direct question to Chuck was that it is now clear that RINO Tillis needs to be opposed and removed in the Republican Primary next year. So, Congressman Edwards, have you considered running against him? (applause from audience)

And if not, since you came from serving as our State Senator and you therefore know personally many former colleagues in the NC Senate, House and Executive branches, is there someone you might recommend who could not only win the primary but also win the general election against whomever the Dems might put on the ballot—a candidate who will undoubtedly be flush with all their outside money from groups like Arabella Advisors?

Chuck thanked me for the flattering invitation to run for the Tillis seat, but then replied that he is only concerned about serving the 11th Congressional District to the best of his ability, has his plate full with that, and that he will not run for the Tillis seat. Further, he replied, he has not given enough thought to recommend anyone at this time.

As an approved Delegate from Henderson County I will be attending the NCGOP State Convention soon, and I am very much looking forward to that again. Trump has always said, even from 2015, that he needs us, the local citizens, to do our part, that it cannot be done by just electing one man as President.

We must elect and keep good representatives in Congress and in the U.S. Senate, but that relies and depends upon knowledgeable activism by Constitutional patriots in local communities. I’m in; are you?
