It matters not where you live in the USA, this story applies to you. Because…
Proverbs 29: 2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
The wicked ones have been in authority over the Christian people in this nation for a long time, and in recent years Christians have been gradually awakening to this reality and they/we are mourning.
Sooner or later, the awakened ones cry out to God for deliverance (as we shown in our still-not-finished series on Gideon, part of our bog-series Barley in the Bible).
After the awakening, many Christians then realize they/we have a duty to be involved in government; otherwise, how will the righteous be in authority? A proverb just a few verses above the prior one is applicable here also.
Proverbs 25: 28a When the wicked rise [into positions of power and authority], men hide themselves [avoiding dangerous areas of cities, trying to avoid getting shot in drive-by shootings, or avoiding having to shoot criminals in self-defense knowing justice is rarely found in courts today; avoiding taxes as far as is legal, etc. And the righteous are awaiting and working to hasten that day…]
Proverbs 25: 28b … when they [the wicked] perish, the righteous increase.
With that motivating me, on Saturday, April 11th I attended the Henderson County Republican Men’s Club (HCRMC) monthly meeting.
The meeting was focused on refining and implementing strategies to put more persons in office who will “seek righteousness in government at all levels.” The part in quotation marks is my way of expressing that we seek not to merely put people in office who claim they are Republican or MAGA.
Because, nationally speaking, we have seen too many deceivers campaign as “moderates” or even as MAGA Republicans and then renege on their pledge to follow the U.S. Constitution and also their state Constitution.
Our local HCRMC President, Bill Fishburne, asked me to give the invocation, and then he, being a veteran, led the pledge of allegiance (albeit, to the gold-fringed flag in the American Legion hall). The significance of that flag compared to the flag of the republic is probably too much to absorb at this stage in their red pill education for many of the fine folks there, so I do not bring it up in such gatherings. There are too many other very practical subjects to focus on.
After the Treasurer’s report, Bill introduced HCGOP President Greg Beam who essentially conducted a brainstorming session opening the floor for tactics and suggestions to get out the vote for the November mid-terms. There were many.
In the local semi-monthly newspaper’s article on the meeting, I will quote from the account which is not visible in the photo at the top.
“James W. Bruggeman, a Republican from Fletcher and a theologian, stated that ‘the most impactful thing to me is the [handout] comparison chart between the Republican and Democrat [candidates] showing this is where they stand…’”
I then went on to recount my experience ca. 2020 when I had a political candidate yard sign in my front yard. I received a notice from our Homeowners’ Association (HOA) that political signs were not allowed per the HOA’s bylaws, rules and regulations.
I read them and discovered that not only were political signs in yards not permitted but neither was soliciting allowed, such as knocking on doors in your neighborhood on behalf of candidates. I knocked on hundreds of doors anyhow and saw my candidate elected to Town Council back then.
Then, last November I also put up her sign in my yard and helped distribute many more of them and she has now been elected to our Board of County Commissioners. She and her husband—who took my place on the Planning and Zoning Board and on the Board of Directors of the Fletcher Fire and Rescue Department—have become good friends of mine.
Back to the HOA “rules.” I had heard that there was a court decision on that and so I simply asked the HCRMC audience at large if anyone knew about that. I wanted to have the proof if I was ever confronted again by the HOA (or anyone else about the legality of yard signs, etc.).
At the end of the meeting, Brandon Apodaca, whose father, Tom, had served as our NC State Senator, came up to me with the Supreme Court case where all nine SCOTUS justices agreed (!) that such HOA rules were violations of the First Amendment.
The case was Reed v. Town of Gilbert Arizona 576 U.S. 155 (2015). You can find it on the SCOTUS website and also with many more details here. Brandon also gave me the North Carolina statute regarding the same issue (NC-47F-3-121).
Proverbs 25:16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall. [God speed the day!]
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
