Bruggeman an “Islamophobe”, declares Pope

No, not Pope Francis, but Richard Pope, a local Leftist critic. He wrote the following letter to the editor in response to the Daily Planet’s accurate and fair report of my speech to the Henderson County Republican Men’s Club, which I featured in yesterday’s blog.

Incidentally, apparently my photo of page A3 of the news story which I placed as the “feature image” at the top of yesterday’s blog may have been truncated in the website version (but not in the emailed version), so here below I post the entire photo.

Meanwhile, I will try to get that glitch corrected. Apparently, our blogging platform has formatting limitations which automatically “cuts to fit” whatever photo I choose to place in that box. Hopefully, we can find a way around that soon.

This was the photo I had intended to be the feature photo in yesterday's blog.

I teased our readers yesterday that you would be amused by the letter to the editor. So here are the profound thoughts of this astute armchair philosopher-critic. (For the sake of those new to this blog, that sentence is wholly satirical.)

I did not crop out either Victor Davis Hanson’s name (whom I referenced in my Q & A session), or the name of a friend of mine (partially obscured on the left side) who also takes lots of barbs for his columns in the Daily Planet from the “full-time critics” like Pope.

There are two consecutive but exactly opposite methods of biblically dealing with a person such as Pope. They are: 1) don’t respond and 2) respond.

Proverbs 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

Proverbs 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

We are making this response which is part of each. How so? Because, while we are answering to the extent of this blog, we shall not answer him in the Daily Planet by me sending a counter letter to the editor. He is itching for a fight in the forum of the Daily Planet, but we shall not take the bait.

He must have a lot of time on his hands because as a regular reader of the Daily Planet, I see his frequent slings and arrows hurled at many conservatives whose activities are reported by Mr. North in the Daily Planet.

I hope you caught Mr. North’s response at the bottom. In case it is illegible in the photo to some readers on your handheld devices, here is John North’s response to Pope.

QUOTE: EDITOR’S NOTE: Pope ended his letter to the editor with the following postscript:

If the Daily Planet wishes to shine a spotlight on somebody…make it Greta Thunberg. That girl could save the world!!!!

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Daily Planet aspires to be neither a progressive-liberal nor a conservative publication, but rather an independent and truth-seeking newspaper. END QUOTE

With the “brilliance” exhibited by Pope, you can understand how some of us Christians wonder why our sovereign Creator-God would give us the challenge (in His sermon on the mount) to pray for people like Pope.

My old man-Adamic nature rebels against wanting to pray for the Popes of this world, but our Spirit-led man (our new person in Christ) says “I will do it.” But Lord Almighty, please convert this Pope and save us from their folly. Thus we close with that double entendre referring to (the) Pope as well as the local Pope.
