A Prayer for America

A Prayer for America
Based on similar images by the same photographer, I am fairly certain this is a hawthorn branch. Herbalists know that hawthorn berries are good for the heart. Lord knows how we need heart healing from our heavenly Father! Photo by Marek Studzinski / Unsplash

This morning I contacted a sister whom I knew to be a phenomenal prayer warrior and asked her, if she were so led, to compose a prayer for our nation on this special day.

This is what the Spirit of God gave her for all of us. If you can agree with this, please let this be your prayer also. With all of us in unity, this will be a mighty upswelling cloud of incense going up to Him who sits on the throne of the universe.

This is our plea for His help, for His mercy upon our nation which has fallen so far—but not beyond His ability to save—and HE WILL.

Father,

On this National Day of Prayer, we come before You with humility and with hope. We acknowledge You as the One who holds nations, leaders, families, and hearts in Your hands. We ask You to turn our attention back to what matters — to Your truth, Your mercy, and Your ways.

Lord, we ask You to search us.

Cleanse what needs cleansing.

Correct what needs correcting.

Strengthen what has grown weak.

Awaken what has fallen asleep.

We lift up our nation to You.

Where there is division, bring healing.

Where there is confusion, bring clarity.

Where there is fear, bring courage.

Where there is darkness, bring light.

Father, call this nation back to Yourself.

Stir repentance where pride has taken root.

Stir compassion where hearts have grown cold.

Stir righteousness where compromise has settled in.

Let Your Spirit move across this land in a way that cannot be manufactured, manipulated, or ignored.

We pray for our leaders — local, state, and national.

Give them wisdom that rises above politics.

Give them courage to do what is right.

Give them discernment to recognize truth from deception.

Guide their decisions, steady their minds, and surround them with counsel that honors You.

And Lord, begin revival in us.

Let it start in our homes, our conversations, our choices, our priorities.

Let Your Kingdom come in our lives so it can flow through our lives.

Make us people who carry peace, speak truth, walk humbly, and shine light wherever You place us.

Father, we rededicate ourselves — and we rededicate this nation — to You.

Lead us.

Correct us.

Restore us.

And draw us back to the path You intended from the beginning.

We ask all of this in the name of Jesus — our Savior, our Redeemer, and our soon‑coming King. Amen.
