Malachi 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD [Yahweh] of hosts.
This is the famous passage predicting the coming of John the Baptist as the forerunner of Jesus the Christ. There is much that could be expounded from this verse, but our sole focus today is this.
Who is speaking? Answer: Yahweh, the Almighty Father-Creator-God. Now, consider the verse again as we place explanatory notes in brackets to aid in our understanding.
Malachi 3:1 Behold, I [Yahweh] will send my messenger [John the Baptist], and he [John] shall prepare the way before me [Yahweh]: and the Lord [Hebrew = adonay: lord, master], whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his [Yahweh/the Lord whom ye seek] temple, even the messenger of the covenant [could refer to either John or the Master], whom ye delight in: behold, he [either or both John and the Master] shall come, saith the LORD [Yahweh] of hosts.
Again, our sole focus for today’s nugget: Yahweh is speaking, and He says that He will send John the Baptist to “prepare the way before ME,” before Yahweh! So, at the time of the ministry of John the Baptist, did Yahweh show up? Yes, indeed, He did. He arrived in the form of Jesus of Nazareth.
Jesus and the Father are one. Speaking of Jesus, Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote:
Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Jesus was fully God and fully man. The Father is Spirit, and so He appeared as one of us (of the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) so that we can relate to, so that we can know the Father via the Son. That’s one reason why Jesus is the way—the only way to the Father! Amen and hallelu-Yah!
